    The Revd Anthony Howe MA FSA

    THE RECTOR

    Fr Anthony became Rector of St James in April 2024, coming from Hampton Court Palace where he was Chaplain and a Canon of the Chapels Royal.

    Born and bred in Suffolk where he acquired a love of church architecture and old books, he read Music at The Queen’s College Oxford, returning to Oxford a few years later to study for the priesthood and a second degree in Theology.

    As well as architecture, Fr Anthony is passionate about history and music, especially in education. He is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries and a member of the Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper Makers, and is Chaplain to the Worshipful Company of Horners.

    He has made several appearances on TV and Radio.

    Alderman Dr Sir Andrew Parmley FRCO

    DIRECTOR OF MUSIC

    Born in Manchester, Andrew was educated at Blackpool Grammar School, the Royal Academy of Music, at Manchester and London Universities, and at Jesus College, Cambridge. He started his career as Director of Music at Forest School near Snaresbrook, before moving on to roles at South Hampstead High School, the Grey Coat Hospital in Westminster, and as Principal of The Harrodian School in West London.

    A Fellow of the Royal College of Organists, Sir Andrew has been Organist and Director of Music at St James Garlickhythe since 1982.

    Sir Andrew is the Alderman for Vintry Ward ands served as the 689th Lord Mayor of the City of London in 2016-17, and he was knighted in the 2018 New Year Honours.

    Dr Andrew Storey MSC

    ORGANIST & ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF MUSIC

    Andrew Storey joined the music team at St James in September 2023. He was born in Blackpool and grew up surrounded by the sights and sounds of entertainment on the piers and in the world-famous Blackpool Tower. These inspired him to take up the church organ and he is now in much demand as a conductor, organist and repetiteur.

    Andrew is also the Director of Music for Ashtead Choral Society, one the largest choral societies in Surrey, is the founding Musical Director of the Old Bailey Choir, conducts the Ashtead Singers and has for over 30 years been the Assistant Director of Music for the Hackney Singers.

    Andrew has an joint honours degree in music and maths, an MSc in information systems and a PhD in computational science. Until recently he was Director of IT and a teacher at Dulwich College.
