Ministry to the Sick
Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.
Epistle of St James 5:14
Home Communion
A priest is happy to take the Blessed Sacrament that was consecrated at the Eucharist to those who are unable to attend in person. If you would like to receive communion at home please contact the Rector or the Parish Office.
Healing Ministry
The Book of Common Prayer contains an Office for the Visitation of the Sick. In the first edition of 1549 this included Holy Unction, that is the anointing with oil of the Sick. Oil has always been valued for its healing qualities and in his epistle St James urges the church to anoint the sick with oil. If you would like to be anointed, please contact us.
Confession and Absolution
In the Prayer Book office for the Visitation of the Sick, the Priest urges the sick person to make a confession of their sins, which is followed by a set form of absolution. The second exhortation in the Communion Service also says that those who have some great matter of sin on their mind should seek out a priest for spiritual counselling and absolution.
Thus, what is known as private Confession has always been practiced in the Church of England, not only by those who are sick but all who feel in the need of a special absolution. As this is totally confidential if you would like to avail yourself of the Sacrament of Penance, please contact the Rector directly.
Contact the Rector
If you wish to discuss any of the above with the Rector of St James, you can contact the Rector confidentially.
