 St James is having to close for a short time in order for scaffolding inside the church to be removed. We will be celebrating Whitsunday at St Michael Paternoster Royal, which is a minute away from St James at the normal time, 1030. Hopefully we will be back home for Trinity Sunday but you will be kept posted.

This Sunday is Pentecost, or Whit, Sunday. BCP Choral Eucharist is at 1030. There will also be choral evensong at 5pm: setting and anthem by Herbert Sumsion, plus lots of lovely Pentecost hymns. Do join us in our celebration of the end of Eastertide!

The decorators are back at St James every morning for the next couple of weeks. As they're decorating the chancel, choir, sanctuary area, Morning Prayer is proving a little difficult so until they're finished, Matins will not be celebrated in church. I will create a post when Matins resumes.

On Saturday, April 21st there will be a concert in church. The performers are Oread, a newly formed professional chamber choir. This is their debut concert and the programme will include works from present-day choral composers, such as Hilary Campbell and David Bednall, alongside masterpieces by Cipriano De Rore and Thomas Tallis.  St James was delighted to host the first ever Nomura and SingingWorks Choir Competition. It involved eight choirs from City firms singing in the amazing setting of our glorious Wren church. Around 250 people came along to sing and offer support: in fact, we ran out of chairs and it was standing room only! But the atmosphere was wonderful and uplifting. Here's to next year!
