RECTOR’S COLUMN In a few days time Lent will start. The season that brings us slowly towards Easter Day. A season of 40 days that the Church has typically regarded as penitential. A time of sober reflection on our lives: of the things we continually get wrong, on our hardness of heart, of our selfishness… and of God’s great love for each of us, a love that never fails no matter what we do (or don’t). The forty days mirrors Jesus’ own 40 days in the wilderness, and the Jewish peoples 40 years in the desert after their Exodus from Egypt. It’s a powerful season when used properly: one tried and tested over the centuries. I urge each of us to use it wisely.
